The Canon EOS Rebel GII is something of a rarified sleeper. It’s easy to use, lightweight, has the advantage of access to the bounteous EF lens ecosystem and perhaps most importantly, it takes great photos with a mood all of their own. The built-in meter is great and partial metering is a wonderful option, and there are a wealth of automatic features that could provide pliantly of extra milage, photographer depending.
