Ranong
Town Accomodation Things To Do

Ranong is generally a place to do a Visa run to Myanmar, however there are a few other attractions and just the fact that it is a quiet fairly small town without many tourists may make you want to stay a few extra days.

There is one very large expensive hotel - The Royal Princess. Which allows you to use all of their facilities (Gym, Sauna, Swimming Pool, Hot Spring Baths, Table Tennis) for only 50 baht per day. This is the main reason I usually stay in Ranong for 4-5 days every time I do a visa run, you can completley relax here.

The Royal Princess Hotel is ideally located 2 minutes walk directly opposite the Wood House2 Guest House (see below).

Comments Perfect location - only 2 minutes walk to the ridiculously cheap health club at the Royal Princess Hotel.

The guest house is set in a nice large square with mountains as a back drop.

Also in the square is a very nice place called 'The Pub' which has FREE Pool Table, good food, wireless internet for laptop users and is run by an english bloke who has done a fair amount of travelling and is always good for an interesting chat.

Things To Do

Hot Springs - FREE

Only about 3 kms out of town (easily walking distance).

The whole area around the hot springs is nice, with a river running right by them. You can bath in the hot springs for FREE at any time of the day.

Ranong Canyon - FREE

You would probably need to take a motorbike up here, as it is about 10kms further along the same road as the hot springs.

I decided that to save money and to keep fit I would borrow the guest house owners kid's bike which was way too small and had no brakes!

I managed to make it there by flagging down pick up trucks to help me on my way, but still did quiet a few kms of tough riding up and down steep hills. It is mainly up hill to get there, and so coming back was 10kms of downhill - with no brakes.... (I used my foot with flip flop on as a brake and almost wore right through it!)

Anyway the Canyon was a very peaceful beautiful place, ideal to bring a lunch and chill out for a few hours. There are a couple of restaurants up there with hilarious menus (see below)
