Koh Phangan - The Turtle Island

Ko Tao is very small compared with Ko Phangan or Ko Samui. If you are into offroad motorbiking this is a great place with some very 'interesting roads' in the middle of the island.

I hired a quad bike (600baht per day) and Carl and myself explored the Island and went up to 2 Views where you can see right across both side of the island.

At Sai Daeng Beach you can snorkel and be guranteed to see black tip sharks. The best snorkelling is probably near to Aow Leuk which is the best beach for swimming.

The Thai people on Ko Tao are definately more business minded and as soon as you get off the ferry you will get hassled by loads of taxi drivers and dive companies which can be very irritating.

Ko Tao is also slightly more expensive than Ko Phangan.

The main reason that people come to Ko Tao is for the diving, but I didnt go diving as I had just been diving in Sipidan Island and was pretty sure that Ko Tao wouldn't beat it.

If you are heading to the Perhentian Islands the diving is spposed to be better and is much cheaper to do a single dive or to take the courses.

Also after going to a night club one night a Thai guy knocked over a girls bike - then after arguing with him about the fact that he has scratched it he then suddenly wanted to start a fight with all of his Thai mates. After this one his bike got knocked over by accident with no damage caused - He then wanted 4000 baht from the english guy who knocked it over and when they refused to pay got out a gun and threatend to shoot him.

These guys also own the taxi companies and basically are very corrupt and seem to run everything. I heard after this a few other stories of where they has screwed people over for large amounts of money.

Comments Not a bad place, but if you use their internet which is expensive anyway the woman at reception will always add on 5-10 minutes and try and charge you more - every time! This is the typical attitude of quite alot of the Thai business people on Ko Tao unfortunately.

Snorkelling Trip - 500baht

Was a nice day out - but the snorkelling was nowhere near as good as the snorkelling trip on the Perhentian Islands
