Queenstown
Town Accomodation Things To Do

The adrenalin & party capital of the South Island. You can do pretty much any activity here from White Water Rafting to Bunjy Jumping & Sky Diving.

Pretty commercialized but some really beatuiful areas and mountains etc. Everything is slightly more expensive though (accomodation and activites) as all the tourist come here. You can do most of the activities in Wanaka an hour away at 2/3 of the price.

Had a few good nights out on the piss with the boys (Jason - Irish, Thomas - Danish, Tristan - Welsh)

Things To Do

Dart River Safari

This was in 2 parts. 1st the Dart River Jet Boat which was ok, but we expected it to be alot faster and at least a little bit scary. The 2nd part was kayaking down the river in large inflatable kayaks. Really easy and you didn't even have to paddle the river took you slowly along.

The scenery was amazing (Lord of the Rings was filmed here) with mountains all round. We kayaked up a stream into a lagoon and then into a cave with a waterfall which was pretty cool.

The Luge

Basically a go-kart without an engine. You go as fast as you can downhill on a concrete circuit.

We picked up a girl who was hitch hiking a few days earlier and it just so happened that she worked on the ticket office so we got as many free goes as we liked! Also you get an amazing view over Queenstown from up the mountain. Well worth doing the Luge even if you have to pay for it, great invention...

Canyon Swing

By far the most scary thing I have ever done - much worse than sky diving. Basically you stand on a ledge 109 metres up from the floor of the Shotover River in a canyon. You then have to throw yourself off and freefall about 100 metre down to the floor of the canyon where a rope kicks in and you swing out over the river. A MASSIVE adrenaline rush.

I enjoyed it so much that I did it again but got them to suspend me upside down and pull a release switch so the ground was rushing up at my head faster! Both me and Jason (in the video) did it.

Whie Water Heli Rafting

We decided to take the option where you fly to the location by helicopter - only a 10 min flight but well worth it if you haven't been in a helicopter.

Definately would do rafting again. We had a bloke called 'Chief' who was the leader and actually was trying to make us all fall out! The saftey canoeist who stays with the rafts in case of emergency pulled me out. By the end 5 out of 7 of us had been in the water. This was one of the best things we did here - Grade 5 rapids!
