Koh Pipi
Town Accomodation Things To Do

Koh Pipi - famous fo the filming of 'The Beach' has been flooded with tourist for years. You definately don't get the same atmosphere you would imagine from watching the film.

However, although it is much more expensive than other parts of Thailand, if you hard enough you can sill get a good bargain.

There are plenty of nice restaurants and bars and the night life is pretty good with 'Hippies Bar' (right on the beach) serving alcohol 24hrs - dangerous when you have to get the ferry at 9am the next morning, I almost missed it!

The Island is small enough to walk across from the ferry terminal to the other main beach in 10-15 mins.

You can also walk up to the viewpoint for a nice panaromaic of the island and keep on walking down the other side to a nice little beach wihich has a few bungalows, a couple of restaurants and goos snorkelling - but definately a lot quieter.

Bad Points
Rating 9/10
Comments Very good value for an on suite room compares with the other prices on the island.

As soon as we got of the boat a lady said he would get us accomodation, but the cheapest on ttheisland was 400 baht. I then said are you sure, what about'such and such' which someone had recommeded to us. She then said oh yes they have rooms for 300, but they smell bad!

With that info we thought we would take a 20 min walk and see some places for ourselves - we found a few very dirty places for 200-250 and then found Lek's which was an absolute bargain.

It is closer to the beach the opposite side to where the ferry comes in.

Accomodation

Price 800 baht - twin room with hot shower (in peak season)
Good Points 2 single beds, bathroom inside, Clean, Comfortable Mattresses, Friendly Owner, Nice Decor in Room, Centrally Located
Bad Points Loud Generators next door
Rating 7/10
Comments Very nice room. Price at 800 is much higher than you would normally pay in Thailand. However we arrived in peak season and for example a place I had stayed in low season before which was very basic and cost 200baht per night had shot up to 500 baht per night. Plus we had to try over 10 places which we all completley full up.

There are no faults with this place other than the sound of loud generators next door which does get rather irritating which is why this place only scored 7/10 - its would have scored 9/10 without the noise pollution.

Things To Do

Snorkelling Trip - 500 baht per person

Definately do a trip on a big boat as opposed to the long tail boat (much more comfortable).

The trip went to Koh Pipi Leh (theisland where the beach was actually filmed) and also went to various different excellent snorkelling places including Bamboo Island which was really like a typical tiny tropical island.

The sea was very warm and crystal clear as you can see form the pics below.

Free unlimited tea, coffee and water. Lunch and Kayaks were included. All in all a good day out.
