Ko Taratao
Town Accomodation Things To Do

Arrive in Ko Taratao 15 days before the island was officially open and the seaon had started. The whole island had about 8 foreigners on it. The beach was amazing, with very fine sand and crystal clear turqouise blue ocean.

This has definatley been the most unspolit island I have been to now in Thailand - and probably in the rest of the world.

The place is run by the national park whoi have done a good job setting up accomodation and small restaurants which are both reasonably prices. The thi people on the island are also extremley friendly and have very limited English.

There are also quite a good few treks to do, waterfalls (see below), caves, a couple of old prisons on the other side of the island and it is possible to go kayaking and camping if you bring your own gear.

All round an amazing place - one of the best beaches I have been to. A great place to chill out and to get away from the tourist traps.

Im actually sitting here under some pam trees at an old wooden table right on the beach as I type this in on my laptop and can see for over a mile up and down the beach with not a single person on it!

Things To Do

Trek to Lu Du Waterfall - FREE

Started on the main beach near the ferry terminal and the total distance was approx 16kms. The first 2kms were easy along the beach (which is possible at low tide) where we joined the main track for 3 kms leading inland where we turned up had a tough trek up a stream for another 3kms.

Reaching the waterfall finally we were rewarded with a cool crystal clear pool and a 3m waterfall.

If you have a snorkel definatley bring it as there are loads of freshwater fish swimming about.

All in all a tough and slightly tedious trek at times, but well worth the effort.
