Very small town - just 2 or 3 main roads. Internet is very expensive ($8 per hour everywhere, however you can buy a library membership card for $15 and get unlimited internet).
Even more Aboriginals here and walking around at night didn't seem too safe, probably fine though.
Generally quite a quiet place and the main attraction is obviously Katherine Gorge which is awesome.
I also hired a bike and rode out to the Springvale Homestead - which wasn't all that interesting, but the bike ride was nice + very hot!

Although the backpackers looks slightly basic at first, it is one of the best I have stayed in. The attitude of everyone is so chilled out and friendly. Good music is playing all the time. Some very famous aboriginal artist including Paddy Fordham come regularly to paint in the grounds.
I actually stumbled upon the place as I was looking in the art shop at the front.
Also if you are cyling around Austalia, you must stop here as there is a large book made up from loads of cyclists with information, maps, stories etc wihich would be extemely interesting and useful.
Definately recommended

Ride To Springvale Homstead - $10 (Bike Hire)

About a 24km round trip.... very very hot, but not a bad idea for something to do. Saw some wallabies on the way, but sadly no crocodilles.

Katherine Gorge
|
Met an english dude called Matt - we decided to try and hitch a lift up to the Gorge, but after walking for about an hour and trying to thumb a lift in 40 degrees heat for another couple of hours we gave up.
The next day, got a group together (the Katherine Crew - Me, Matt, Tracy, Youri, Alex and another French bloke) and hired a car - which cost $100 between 6 of us for the day.
Walked one of the tracks which was about 5kms long to one of the waterfalls which was absolutely stunning. Crystal clear pool, clear blue skies, thundering waterfall.
Matt the nutter decided to jump from the top of the waterfall which must have been between 15-20 metres high. Fair play.
I also got a boat ride down Katherine Gorge which was part of a package deal with Travel North.
