Although everyone said that Brisbane is a really nice city, we didn't think it was anything special - it was generally just like any other city.
The new area along the river front is quite nice with the man made lagoon. This walk leads along to the Botannical Gardens which we fairly boring compared to other gardens we have seen since.
There are some nice pubs / restaurants. We also went to the casino which was very small compared to the Sydney and Auckland ones.

Things To Do
|
Bush Walk - Mt Cutha
|
You can get the bus to the top of the mountain for some excellent views of Brisbane, then there is a track which takes you down hill through the bush back towards the town. The walk is pretty easy with a detour going round a track which has abroiginal paintings on rocks etc.
This is where we saw our first Goanna (big lizard below - over 1m in length) in Australia which we though must have been really rare - but now we have seen loads!

Australia Zoo - Steve Irwin ($20)
|
Not really in Brisbane, but you can get to it easily from either Brisbane or Mooloolaba.
This is the best Zoo we have been to. Everything is well looked after, there are loads of people walking around to ask information and show you things, all of the animals have large enclosures.
There is a good crocodille feeding show and other shows including Koalas + Otters etc. Also the Kangaroos walk through area is excellent where you can stroke the kangaroos freely.
At certain times you can get your photo taken with a snake / koala / baby crocodille. However this costs $14.95 and is a total rip off - other zooz are alot cheaper and sometimes free to do this.
