We ended up staying at Aow Nang which is a couple of bays further along from Krabi as we had limited time and had heard it was nicer.
At Aow Nang, the beach is not great, but the town has some nice little bars which get quite busy later in the evening.
A couple of beaches along is Railey Beach (probably the best place to go rock climbing in Thailand) and then the next beach along is Phra Nang Cave Beach (costs 50 baht in a water taxi from Aow Nang). This is one of the best beaches I have ever been to and is very picturesque with fine white sand and tall cliff surrounding, with one lone standing pinnacle of rock in the centre.
It is possible to go straight from Aow Nang to Koh Pipi for 200-250 baht
There is unfortunatley a definate touristy feel to this place, as many people come hee for package holidays and honey moons. This means general things are more expensive e.g. a ride in a tuk tuk costs 20baht per person - so if you go round the town twice on your own (20baht) or if 4 of you go 2 minutes down the road (100 baht)

Good value compared with some other guest houses in the area. Toilet was outside the room, but was clean and nice.
The view from the balcony in the guesthouse was nice, looking across the town and the cliffs (see below).
