One of the places you have to visit if you go to New Zealand. We stayed in a place right on the sea front and fairly close to the National Park entrance which is great for walking, running, cycling and has amazing beaches which can only be accessed by foot or by water.

Tramping & Camping
|
Good place to do this as you get to walk through forest and along beaches as part of the track.
I went on a 3 day 25 mile walk on my own. It was such a mission with my pack weighing about 25 kgs and the track very up and down hill but was worth it (see photos below).
The first night I spent in a hut on a campsite and met a builder (Craig) who was working in the area who gave me at least 6 of his beers - top man.
The 2nd night I was on a campsite all on my own and went off after cooking dinner to have some beers on the beach. When I got back to my tent a possum was half in it and had ripped my bag open in two places and stolen all the buscuits! Then all night was trying to get in the tent so I only got about 2 hours sleep holding a big stick in case it got in.
Now I hate the possums as much as all the Kiwis do.

Sea Kayaking & Walking

Quite good fun, Sea Kayaking pretty hard on the arms. Good place to do it though with the nice beaches to stop off at.
